Dalit Women Network (DWN) organized an interaction and coordination program on March 22, 2024, in Kirtipur. The event marked the International Day for Elimination of Caste and Racial Discrimination and aimed to coordinate and link with justice actors to end caste-based discrimination, untouchability, and violence against Dalit women.

The program was attended by representatives from the local judicial committee, police office, local government, political parties, Dalit women activists, vigilance committee, and civil society organizations. Ms. Man Kumari B.K., Secretary formal and nonformal of DWN, hosted the program, while Ms. Bal Kumari Bishwakarma, President of DWN, chaired it. The chief guest was Ms. Shuvalaxmi Shakya, Deputy Mayor and Coordinator of the Local Judicial Committee. A total of 60 participants were present in the program.

During the program, the issue of caste-based discrimination was discussed, including the padlock on the Jalpadevi temple of Ward No. 6, Kirtipur, which was placed to prohibit Dalit women from worshiping in the temple. Political party leaders and local government representatives committed to opening the padlock and allowing Dalit women into the temple. They also pledged to address the problems faced by Dalit women due to caste-based discrimination and the practice of untouchability.

The program’s message stressed the need for collective efforts to eradicate discrimination based on caste for a just society.
